The meaning of this word is \u201cshe whose gaze reaches far.\u201d In myth, Europa, abducted by Zeus, symbolizes universal power, particularly that of the nourishing and maternal Earth, while the god of the diurnal sky is her complement. Briard, <em data-start=\"745\" data-end=\"772\">L\u2019\u00c2ge du Bronze en Europe<\/em>, Paris, 1997, p. 16), and corresponds to the two celestial bodies, Sun and Moon, which embody the two halves\u2014day and night, summer and winter\u2014of natural cycles and serve as the two eyes of the universe.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"977\" data-end=\"1727\"><strong data-start=\"977\" data-end=\"1009\">The Representation of Europe<\/strong><br data-start=\"1009\" data-end=\"1012\" \/>Based on this, an emblem is conceived that brings together the nine-branched tree, the Sun, and the Moon, as is customary in countless works of folk art.<br data-start=\"1165\" data-end=\"1168\" \/>In this context, it is worth noting that the geographer Kai-Helge Wirth, in agreement with a hypothesis by Isaac Newton, identified in the stellar coordinate system of the ancient zodiac a \u201ccelestial map\u201d of ocean currents, developed in pre- and protohistoric times. This symbolism can satisfy most users and transcends the framework of political institutions to serve as a reference for the entire continent. The central void of this flag calls for a complement. What precedes offers a suggestion: Europe should adopt the cross or the tree, both frequent symbols in its cultures since the Upper Paleolithic and Mesolithic periods.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2208\" data-end=\"2953\"><strong data-start=\"2208\" data-end=\"2242\">The Floral Emblem of Europeans<\/strong><br data-start=\"2242\" data-end=\"2245\" \/>Many peoples have a flower or emblematic plant. For Europeans, Ph. Jou\u00ebt has proposed the eight-petaled dryad, <em data-start=\"2356\" data-end=\"2374\">Dryas octopetala<\/em>, a white rosaceous flower with a golden heart, known as <em>mountain avens, ch\u00eanette, Alpine tea, wei\u00dfe Silberwurz, t\u00e9 dels Pireneos, derrig, leaith\u00ednn, ro\u017eu dzimta, lapinvuokko<\/em>, etc. (already symbolically associated with two northern territories in Europe and North America). The name <em data-start=\"2657\" data-end=\"2664\">dryas<\/em> refers to the oak nymphs of Greek mythology and also designates the climatic oscillations of the Late Glacial period\u2014the Dryas.
