People of Kernow.
British Cornwall, or Cornwall, owes its name to the British Cornovii who settled at the far end of ancient Celtic Dumnonia. The Cornish language is closely related to Breton.
A depiction of the Brittonic red dragon based on the constellation Draco, mythologically significant (see here), may be shared by the Cornish.
The shield of Cornwall is sable (black) bearing fifteen bezants of gold. The Cornish flag bears the white cross on a black field, known as Saint Piran’s Cross. A very well-known emblem, reproduced on many media, is the ringed Cornish cross, a famous example of which is the stone cross of Peran Treth. The ringed quaternary was a favored figure in Celtic art, an image of society and of the land.
We reproduce here the cross accompanied by the fifteen golden bezants.
