Presentation
Separated in 906 from Great Moravia, the Slovaks preserved their language without possessing a state of their own, until the national revival of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Slovak flag, adopted in the 19th century, takes up the patriarchal cross and the Tatra, Mátra, and Fatra Mountains from the coat of arms on a tricolour (see P. Kartous and P. Novák, Vrtel Erby a vlaky miest v Slovenkej Republicka, Bratislava, 1991). The red rose is the emblematic flower of the Slovaks.
The Three Mountains and the patriarchal cross are the most appropriate graphic symbol.
